Bike lane in Setagaya

A social experiment on setting bike lane has started in Setagaya, Tokyo. This experiment is to prevent accidents between bikes and pedestrians. They paint both end of the roadway in blue. According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Japan, painted bike lane is rare case. Bikes need to go on same direction as cars go. Also, they divided side walk and slow lane for bikes with white dotted line. Bikes on the sidewalk are one-way and need to go on opposite direction to cars. Accidents between bikes and pedestrians have increased sharply. In 1996, there were only 582 cases, but it increased to 2767 cases in 2006.

  1. I think this experiment is good. There are many accidents caused by cyclists and many people are pained. I hope to decrease the number of these accidents and recover good cycling manner.
