Memory and Record

There are two types people in the sports and entertainment. First people remain in the memory. Second people remain records. Of course, there are people who remain both. What is difference of this two types people? I think first people has very strong momentary impression and second people has long term view. Perhaps this is maybe only very small difference that can get fortune or not. How is your opinion.
