What day is today?

I am very exciting because golden week has begun and the first design assignment has come to the end. We went to school today and yesterday,but some of other people has 9days holidays. Japanese government had changed the system of holiday to get successive holidays. Now there are many holidays which are not known their originally mean.I am happy to have successive holidays.On the other hand I have a question"why do I have holidays?".
