Needless Christmas Present
In UK, people wastes 230million £ (about 5,2 billion yen/ 5200億円) by buying Christmas present which is unnecessary.
Accorting to the research, 76% of 1400 people said that they waste 50£(at largest number/11,000yen) by buying needless present every year and it can calculated 230billion in whole UK. 39% of these presents will be left in cupboard and 28% will be sold in the Internet.
I think it is mottainai. In my opinion, they should stop buying presents rather than waste their money by needless present. I wonder giving Christmas present is become custom of UK because of Christianity? I guess Japanese people hardly do such a useless thing. What do you think about this article?

I agree with you. The fact is very MOTTAINAI. But I think if the presents became wastes, they should save their money or give the presents to people who have no job or home. This is an idea of my favorite movies. The movement was called as "Pay Forward". If you owe someone, you usually have to Pay Back. But in the idea, if you owe someone, you have to pay forward to make another happy, then give it to the next. I think it could make the world better.
As you say, many people in the U.k might spend more money than Japanese people because they believe in Christianity and don't care about the cost.
I heard a news that an elderly rich man gave christmas presents to many children who live in a ophanage. I hope that other people will follow him in the wrold.
